Fast-Retiring Workforce Creates Opportunities for Women
While a majority of oil and gas executives are headed for retirement within the next ten years, it raises concerns of shortage of workers in the coming years. To meet this shortage of workers, the American Petroleum Institute is encouraging women to join the oil and gas workforce.
Lynn Bartels said in a recent article:
“We are about to ready to encounter what we refer to as the ‘great workforce change.’ In about 10 years, the majority of oil and gas executives, CEOs and managers are going to retire,” said Tracee Bentley, the executive director of the newly created Colorado Petroleum Council.
“The good news is that creates huge opportunities for women in particular and certainly minorities to come and work for the industry. We are aggressively seeking women who want to work in the oil and gas industry.”
Lack Of Awareness Behind Fewer Women Entering The Oil And Gas Industry
The significantly low percentage of women in the oil and gas workforce can be attributed to the lack of awareness about the opportunities available in the industry. This finding was revealed in a recent study. The average salaries of oil and gas employees is markedly higher than those working in other industries. This is a fact that cannot be disputed and should attract more women into the industry.
“A recent study found most women are open to working in the industry but aren’t aware of the opportunities.
The average salary of an oil and gas job in Colorado is $105,000 a year — $54,000 more than the average salary. The industry currently supports 213,000 jobs in the state, and the mountain region is projected to have 156,000 new job opportunities over the next 20 years.”
Women should be aware that job opportunities are not limited to those having college degrees. There are a wide number of job openings available, ranging from instrument engineer jobs, accountants, marketers to chef openings in the oil and gas industry.
Women who are looking to pursue rewarding career opportunities will find many in the oil and gas industry. Taking advantage of the labour shortage, this is the right time for women to explore career opportunities in the oil and gas industry.
