What You Should Know About The Current Employment Scenario In The Oil And Gas Field

oil-and-gas-LayoffWhile most people who are working in the oil and gas sector are feeling anxious about pay cuts or worried about losing their jobs, there are some things that you should be aware about the current employment scenario in the oil and gas sector. Read on to learn about what experts and economists are saying about the current situation.

Short Term Period Of Layoffs And Pay Cuts

This period which is likely to see an increased number of layoffs and pay cuts is going to be short-lived, as experts say that the pattern of hiring and layoffs goes on in a cyclical pattern.

Karr Ingham, who compiles the monthly Texas Petro Index said in a recent article:

“He said 50,000 upstream workers in Texas could lose their jobs as a result of the oil price decline, based on what he saw during the 2008-2009 cycle. “It will be a bloodbath in the short-term, but it’s cyclical,” Ingham said.”

Some Companies Will Look At Hiring The Cream Of The Crop

Although many major oilfield services companies are cutting down on the number of workers and reducing pay for their workers, there are some other companies who are looking to take advantage of the situation. They are going all out to hire the cream of the crop and getting skilled workers on their rolls. They have prepared themselves to deal with such bad economic situations.

As shared in a recent news article:

“Arthaud, a North Dakota native who’s been active in the state’s oil industry since the late 1970s, said he isn’t particularly concerned for his company, which employees some 2,000 people repairing oil field equipment, increasing the oil flow at wells, and trucking oil out of the fields to nearby rail hubs.

He’s been through this several times before, and instead of laying people off, he plans on using the downturn to hire employees away from other firms that aren’t as prepared to deal with it.”
