It’s time to find out and be prepared to face your next job interview with confidence. So whether it is buyer jobs in the oil and gas industry or a sales position, be prepared to make a good first impression at your next job interview. Read this article to learn about what interviewers look for when they ask trick questions.
To Judge Your Creativity And Problem-Solving Skills
Sometimes, interviewers throw a random, bizarre question at you, in the midst of a job interview. Something like, “Suppose you were given the task to buy candy for everyone in office and the only candy shop in town is closed, what would you do?” Don’t be surprised if the question does not relate to the job that you are interviewing for. These questions are designed to judge your creativity and problem-solving skills. There is no such thing as a right or wrong answer. You should think calmly about how you could solve the puzzle and then answer the interviewer, providing an explanation for the solution that you have chosen.
Lisa Quast said in a recent article:
“They’re trying to learn about the candidate’s thought process, creativity and problem-solving skills. They want to gain a better understanding of how the person analyzes difficult situations. If this happens to you, take a deep breath, relax, and then share how you would think through the problem and the variables you’d need to consider (such as cost, timing, budget, location, resources, etc.).”
To Check Your Analytical And Logical Thinking Abilities
Valerie Jones, Careers Editor at Rigzone describes in a recent Youtube video about some trick questions that interviewers ask and how you can best answer these questions.
Some interviewers ask trick questions like “If you have a misunderstanding with your colleague and it escalates, while affecting your work, how will you sort it out?” These questions are designed to test your logical thinking abilities and to understand your behaviour and reactions to common issues faced in the workplace.
Interviewers also check for analytical ability while asking some questions like,
“Describe a problem at your workplace that you identified and what steps did you take to resolve the issue?”
They want to understand how good you are in analysing issues and your approach to finding solutions for them. Do you take an objective or subjective approach? They also want to check if you are a good team player or prefer keeping to yourself.
