In Scotland, workers affected by the downturn have been offered training opportunities to work in industries that include gas engineering, renewables and low-carbon technologies. Several training providers in and around Scotland are utilizing the Transition Training Fund, £12million, established by the Scottish government to offer support to affected oil and gas workers in the form of training courses.

According to a recent news article:

“Workers hit by the downturn in the oil and gas sector are being offered a chance to train for other industries such as gas engineering, renewables and low-carbon technologies.

Around 340 places are being offered by training providers around Scotland through the Transition Training Fund, a £12 million fund established by the Scottish Government to support people affected by redundancies in oil and gas.”

Laid off oil and gas workers can opt for training programs and courses to prepare themselves for taking on challenges in other industries. This way, they can re-skill and be ready when the oil and gas industry recovers.
