1. Your Career May Take You All Over the World
As the search for oil grows, new developments are opening all over the world. Older reservoirs are drying up and new ones are being discovered. The large corporations have complexes on almost every continent, in dozens of countries. If you want to travel, this is a good way to do it – and to get paid for it. If you would rather stay in one place, though, you should know that it may not be possible.
2. You Might End Up Working Odd Shifts
Those who work on offshore oil platforms often work for months at a time, every day, while on the platform. The cost of transportation would be too high otherwise. However, after that, you might get an entire month off to make up for it. You will get paid the same while you are working or while you are on your time off.
3. You Will be Working in a Stable Industry
The oil industry is very stable because people are more dependent on fuel every day. In countries like the United States, where the cities tend to sprawl across the landscape, it is almost impossible to live without a car. As long as there is a demand, there will always be work finding and obtaining oil.
4. Your Job Could Changed Based on Your Education
Are you interested in taking night classes at the local college while you work? If so, you should know that your job could change based on the degrees that you get. If you have no degree at all, you can still get an entry level job. You can then work your way up. If you get a degree in business management, for example, it will be even easier to climb the ladder. You could move swiftly from the entry-level job to managing a team based on your skills and abilities.
5. Both Manual Labor and Desk Jobs are Available
As far as the type of work that you will be doing is concerned, there are opportunities for both manual labor jobs and desk jobs. Workers are needed to repair and run pipelines or oil wells. Others are needed to balance the finances, coordinate efforts, and keep things in the field going smoothly. No matter what skills you have or what job type you prefer, you should be able to find some options.
