Signs Of Recovery In Oil And Gas Jobs

Recovery In Oil And Gas JobsIt looks like the oil and gas industry is slowly wobbling back onto its feet. Industry experts believe that the worst of the downturn is over. With many oil and gas companies posting open positions, since the summer of 2016, the situation seems to be becoming better. There’s been an increase in the number of rigs in the Permian basin. Added to this is the fact that the oil and gas industry is one of the highest paying industries. Oil rig jobs are looking promising for candidates looking to begin a career in oil and gas.

An Increase In Job Postings By Oil And Gas Companies

There is an increase in the number of open positions being advertised since summer, signalling that the worst is over. Halliburton is currently hiring for over 200 jobs in the Permian basin. Candidates are also responding to these open positions by applying for these positions. Rising oil prices and the OPEC agreement to limit the production of oil will likely be a positive sign for operators in the oil and gas industry.

Jennifer Hiller said in a recent article:

“After a long slog through the worst oil bust in 30 years, oil and gas workers have a reason to be optimistic: Job postings are on the upswing.

Oil and gas companies stopped putting out “now hiring” signs in early 2014, but have started advertising more open positions since the summer, according to data compiled by the job search site Indeed.com.”

Increase In The Number of Rigs In The Permian Basin

There has been a steady increase in the number of active rigs looking for oil and gas. The number stood at 404 in the month of May of 2016, but now stands at 624 working drilling rigs. This is encouraging news for those looking for oil and gas jobs. Things are beginning to look up for those working in the oil and gas industry.

According to a recent CBS news article:

“When oil and gas related jobs are on the market, people from all over the country pay attention.

“We’re definitely up with the number of rigs in the Permian Basin and that s always a good sign. We’re beginning to see an increased number in job applicants, people already coming in from Louisiana, different places, wanting to come back,” said Taylor.”

The Texas Workforce Commission reported an increase in the number of jobs created in the mining category in the months of October and November. This category includes oilfield workers.

When the oil and gas industry recovers, it will be good news for other industries as well. There are many industries that indirectly depend on the oil and gas industry to thrive.

There are many encouraging signs that indicate a recovery in the oil and gas industry. An increase in the number of job postings, rise in the number of active drilling rigs and in oil prices point that the worst may be over.
