Why Houston Oil And Gas Jobs Important

The oil and gas jobs have been on a rise for some time now. The past decade has shown a considerable increase in the oil and gas jobs.

According to Convex Capital Management research director Sonu Varghese in one of the news articles:

“The U.S. economy added 252,000 jobs in December, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday. Just 400 of those jobs, or 0.16 percent of the total, were in oil and gas extraction. That’s a huge reversal: Since 2008, the oil and gas sector has added 61,500 jobs, accounting for nearly 4.5 percent of new U.S. jobs,”

At the moment, in Houston, oil and gas jobs are playing key importance for people in getting jobs. Oil and gas jobs have been the main reason for intensive employment in Houston.

As there is a rise in the oil and gas employment, there is also a simultaneous increase in recession rate in the oil and gas companies. Texas is one of the few states in the U.S. that is hiring at an increasing rate.

The below video gives you a stats of the same.

However, there are many factors that result in recession in the oil and gas industry. Some of the basic reasons for recession are as below:

  • Lesser Pay

One of the main reasons oil and gas companies face recession is because of lesser pay package. There are certain jobs that are paid less and are the main reasons why people choose to leave their companies in a short span.

  • Unable to Adapt

Many times, it is difficult for some people to adapt to the new environment and especially if the work is on an onsite.

  • Unable To Change

After a point, many people are not very comfortable with change. Carrying an experience of 15-20 years people find it uncomfortable to change and want to settle in one location and do not like being shifted around. That acts as one of the main reasons people choose to quit.

Because of the reasons mentioned above, oil and gas companies face a huge loss on employment and have to keep hiring people, especially in Houston, oil and gas companies play an important role in oil and gas employment in retaining manpower.
