A growing number of energy companies are recruiting women and introducing new HR policies to attract female candidates for jobs in the oil and gas sector. While the oil and gas sector is known to be predominantly male, the shift towards hiring more women to the workforce is an attempt to fill the vacant positions for skilled workers. Energy Companies Introduce Policies To Attract Women
A large number of energy companies are introducing policies to attract women to the workforce. These include setting up an on-site day care center, introducing flexible work schedules, and having a generous maternity leave policy. Realizing the need to find skilled workers to fill positions in the oil and gas industry, many oil and gas companies are introducing initiatives to attract women into their workforce.
Ryan Holeywell said in a recent blog:
“Energy companies also are sending high-ranking women to speak at campus events to demonstrate the potential for women to advance in the energy sector. And more companies are offering employees on-site day care, generous maternity leave policies, flexible work schedules, and a greater say when it comes to relocation.”
Female Engineering Graduates Are In Huge Demand
The key reason women are in huge demand is attributed to the skills and value that they are perceived to have to different industries. Some things that sets them apart from men include their decision-making skills and multi-tasking abilities. The oil and gas industry has to position itself as being friendly to women pursuing careers and compete with other sectors to successfully attract women into its fold.
Linda Emery, Global Head of talent attraction and candidate experience in BP, said in a recent blog:
“They are perceived to have skills which are of value to many different industries,” Emery said. “What we find is we’re competing not just with engineering firms and energy companies but also with investment banks and consumer services. It’s a very sought after group of individuals. If I had a daughter I’d be saying ‘study engineering. ”
Women are looking to pursue a successful career can consider working in the oil and gas sector. This sector is opening up to women being part of the workforce rather than being the exception.
