In today’s volatile economy, families find themselves struggling for economic survival. However, in recent years the energy sector has seen an increase in the number of oil and natural gas jobs across the country. As a result, families in many states are finding high-paying, steady employment with various energy companies, allowing them the chance to regroup financially and purchase necessary items such as new homes and cars. In addition, there are many other ways families are prospering due to the increase in oil and gas jobs.

Promoting Job Growth

The increase in oil and gas jobs could not have come at a better time for many parts of the United States. States that have suffered significant economic downturns in the last decade, such as Pennsylvania, West Virginia, North Dakota, Arkansas and others now find themselves with revived economies due to the production of natural gas. According to the Natural Gas Supply Association, the industry currently employs over 600,000 Americans plus more than two million additional workers in related industries.

Revival of Manufacturing

Many families who for years relied on manufacturing jobs for their livelihood have found themselves losing their jobs due to companies shipping jobs overseas. However, many companies have now started bringing jobs back to the United States, once again creating job opportunities for American workers. According to the American Chemistry Council, increased production of natural gas will lead to over 400,000 new manufacturing jobs being created by U.S. companies, which will generate an estimated $132 billion in economic output from workers and their families.

Lower Energy Costs

For many families living in the northern United States, winter brings high heating bills that are often too much for the family budget. As a result, many of them are forced into choosing to pay the heating bill rather than buy groceries or visit a doctor. However, as oil and gas jobs continue to become more plentiful, the increased production in natural gas has resulted in lower energy costs for residential properties. The General Accounting Office of the U.S. Government estimates most residential heating costs will be lowered by as much as 40 percent due to the increase in drilling for natural gas throughout the country.

American families have always taken great pride in being self-sufficient and being able to contribute to the overall good of their community. With the revival of oil and natural gas jobs in previously downtrodden areas of the nation, families are once again made to feel proud about their jobs and the role they play in making their town a great place to live and work.
