1 Geoscientist
A Geoscientist interprets the geophysical, geochemical and geological data and develops models of the surface of the earth, especially in the discovery of natural gas, oil and water. They assess the potential quality of mineral and hydrocarbon resources. They also undertake exploratory drilling and advise managers about the geological factors affecting exploration.
2 Drilling Engineers, Drilling Supervisors and Drillers
Drilling personnel are involved in drilling operations for discovery and production. Drilling engineers are especially in short supply, and there are many good positions worldwide for people with this qualification and experience.
3 Subsea Engineers
Subsea engineers design and maintain the equipment used in the underwater aspect of offshore oil and gas production. They are able to work for facilities for both shallow water and deep water categories of underwater oil and gas production.
4 Subsurface and Completions Engineers
The subsurface or completion engineer works closely with the drilling engineer and selects the right equipment for the subsurface environment for the best results. They will monitor the equipment even after it is functioning to make sure the best circumstances are created to produce the optimum gas or oil.
5 Pipeline and Piping Engineers
Pipeline engineers design, construct, inspect, test and maintain the subsea pipeline that is used in offshore fields. They must establish a balance between cost, production, safety and integrity of the piping systems.
6 Marine engineers and Specialists
These professionals are required in offshore oil and gas operations because of the constant use of boats for transporting crude oil, liquefied gas, equipment and food. This is one of the most in-demand jobs in the industry because floating vessels for oil production in deep water fields are required all over the world.
7 Truck Drivers and Crane Operators
Especially in the U.S. and Canada where fracking has made the U.S. self-sufficient in oil production, there is a lot of hauling of water and sand from drilling sites. If the drivers are also mechanics and can repair their own trucks, so much the better. Certified crane operators are in demand and they earn a very good salary.
8 Tax Accountants
The oil and gas industry is always susceptible to tariffs, taxes, royalties and other deductions. An experienced oil and gas accountant is invaluable for balancing the books, pay taxes and ensure sustained profit.
There are other jobs in the industry that are available, including technical safety engineers, welding technicians, environmental specialists, process engineers and mechanical engineers. There is a shortage of skilled and specialized labor in the oil and gas industry, which is why it is a good target for people looking for well-paid careers.
